Sophomore Katie Voss had a spectacular debut Tuesday with three goals and two assists as SBCC cruised to an 8-0 women’s soccer victory in the season opener at College of the Sequoias.
Natalie Powell added two goals and an assist while Alison Raack and Nicole Payne-Duhe each had two assists. Cheyenne Rodriguez and Hannah Zech combined on the shutout.
The Vaqueros scored four goals in a 15-minute span of the first half. Powell started things off in the 13th minute on an assist from Voss.
Voss, a former San Francisco State star, scored in the 15th, 22nd and 28th minutes. Raack assisted on her first goal and Powell on the second.
Emily Myrick made it 5-0 in the 42nd minute on an assist from Payne-Duhe.
“The girls played very well in extreme heat,” said coach John Sisterson, who got his 75th win with the women after a four-hour drive to Visalia. “Jenna Rubin was outstanding at center-back and Regina Petrella played well in her college debut.”
Brittany Brennhofer, Powell and Jessica Domenichelli added second-half goals in the 53rd, 86th and 89th minutes, respectively. Payne-Duhe, Raack and Voss got the assists.
The Vaqueros will battle Cypress on Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Ventura Tournament.
