SBCC opened its women’s volleyball season with a pair of losses on Friday at the Pasadena Tournament. The Vaqueros fell to Cypress 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-13) and dropped a 3-2 decision to Glendale (25-19, 25-18, 23-25, 18-25, 15-6).
Cypress finished third in last year’s state playoffs. The Vaqueros lost six of seven starters from last year’s 21-6 edition that reached the third round of the playoffs.
“With so many new faces on the court, we are a little ways away from gelling as a team,” said coach Ed Gover. “Emily Banas stood out as the top scorer in both matches.
“Cypress didn’t drop far from where they were last year and they’re a solid team. We made a nice comeback against Glendale by winning the third and fourth games.”
