The New Orleans Saints will conduct a week-long training camp in Oxnard starting the week of Aug. 22, the NFL team announced.
The Saints will train at the River Ridge fields next to the Residence Inn by Marriott, the same facility used in previous summers by the Dallas Cowboys and Oakland Raiders.
Ironically, the Saints are coming to the West Coast to prepare for a preseason game against the Raiders in Oakland on Aug. 28, and to escape the hot and muggy conditions in Louisiana.
“We are going to Oxnard mainly to extend camp by a week and to escape the heat a little bit,” Saints coach Sean Payton told reporters on Tuesday.
In a story in the Ventura County Star, Greg Bensel, the vice president of communications for the Saints, said all practices will be open to the public. They will start at 4 p.m.
The Saints’ visit to Oxnard will be a homecoming for a pair of former St. Bonaventure High standouts: cornerback Terrail Lambert and linebacker Dwight Roberson.
