Lakey Peterson finished strong in her quarterfinal heat on Saturday morning and defeated Laura Enever of Australia to advance to the semifinals in the Women’s Pro Division at the Nike U.S. Open of Surfing at the Huntington Beach Pier.
Peterson, scoring better than 6.0 in her last three waves, beat Enever 13.80 to 10.24 and will surf on Sunday.
Peterson started slowly but took command on the fifth wave, scoring a 7.17 to Enever’s 1.67. She followed that with a pair of 6.63s to clinch the heat.
The Peterson-Enever battle was the first quarterfinal of the day. They’ll meet again later in the day in the Junior Women’s Final.
Conner Coffin of Santa Barbara is in the Junior Men’s semifinals. He’s in a heat with Tanner Hendrickson and Keanu Asing of Hawaii and Filipe Toledo of Brazil.
