Laguna Blanca won six straight matches over two days and captured the consolation title at the Kamehameha Schools Maui Invitational girls preseason volleyball tournament in Hawaii.
The Owls defeated Lahainaluna, 25-18, 25-10, on Saturday to earn the consolation trophy. The result was a nice comeback for the team, which lost its first two matches in the tournament. It earlier beat Molokai, Hana and Baldwin in the semifinals (25-14, 25-22).
Coach Jim Alzina praised the play of senior Amanda Harvey, who led Laguna Blanca in the final with 12 kills.
“She played well all tournament,” Alzina said. “We moved her from setter to outside hitter and that changed things around.”
He also lauded junior opposite Bella Taron, who had six digs in the final, and sophomore setter Clara Madsen, who finished with 20 assists.
