Jeff Hall made a key defensive play in the sixth chukker, and Grants Farm held off Lucchese to win the Lucchese America Cup polo championship on Sunday at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club.
Lucchese pulled to within two goals early in the final chukker, but Grants Farm made a series of clutch plays and Hall came up with a key steal and scored a pair of goals to secure the title.
Hall led all scorers with eight goals and was named MVP of the tournament. His horse, Sparkle, was awarded the Best Playing Pony.
Jeff Blake scored four goals to lead Lucchese.
In the consolation final, Piaget defeagted Mansour 12-9.
The high-goal polo season reaches its climax the next three weekends with the Bombardier Pacific Coast Open. The action begins Thursday, Aug. 18 with Lucchese playing Piaget at 10 a.m., Mansour facing ERG at 1 p.m. and Grants Farm taking on Audi at 3 p.m.
The action continues the following two Thursdays (Aug. 25, Sept.1), three Sundays (Aug. 21 28, Sept. 4) and Saturday, Sept. 3. The championship is Sept. 4 at 2 p.m.
