Former SBCC pitcher Kylin Turnbull signed with the Washington Nationals for a $325,000 bonus on August 15, according to reports in Baseball America and The Washington Post.
The 6-foot-5 left-hander was picked in the fourth round of the Major League Draft. He was the 127th overall selection. Turnbull, 21, earned All-WSC North honors and helped the Vaqueros capture the 2011 conference title. He was 5-2 with a 2.47 ERA in 80 innings with 92 strikeouts and 17 walks. He had four complete games and struck out 13 batters in back-to-back starts. Chris Joyce, another SBCC left-hander who was the WSC and Southern Cal Pitcher of the Year, was a 19th-round pick of the Cincinnati Reds. He’s currently pitching in the Arizona Rookie League and has a 1.20 ERA in 15 innings of work. The former Dos Pueblos High star has struck out 22 and walked four. |
