LAS VEGAS – Junior forward Dyanne Anderson scored her first career goal to snap a scoreless tie in the 82nd minute as the UCSB women’s soccer team defeated the host school in the final game of the UNLV Rebel Classic in Las Vegas.
Anderson, a transfer from Rancho Santiago College, scored the goal at the 81:03 mark. Senior forward Alissa Sanchez sent a pass across the box to Anderson on the left side. She quickly unleashed a shot from close range that hit the left post and caromed over the goal line, past the outstretched save attempt by Rebel goalkeeper Kylie Wassell.
UCSB (1-0-1) dominated the match against UNLV (1-1-0). The Gauchos outshot the Rebels by a count of 15-2. In fact, in the two games at the UNLV Rebel Classic, Santa Barbara outshot its opponents (Idaho and UNLV) 44-9.
Sophomore goalkeeper Makenna Henry logged her first shutout of the season, but she needed just two saves to accomplish the feat. Wassell had six saves for UNLV.
The Gauchos will play their first home game on Friday, Aug. 26 when they host Santa Clara in a 7:00 p.m. match at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium.
