Santa Barbara’s 12-under Bronco All-Stars got clutch hit after clutch hit and beat Northside of Oxnard, 9-6, in the championship game of the West Zone Southern California District Tournament in Newbury Park.
“We scored all nine runs with two outs and had eight two-out hits,” Santa Barbara coach Bret Biegert said. “It was the most clutch performance I have ever seen in baseball.”
The district title is the first for a Santa Barbara 12U All-Star team since 2002 and only its fifth in 39 years.
Santa Barbara went 4-0 in the tournament, twice beating Newbury Park (18-3 and 15-5) and knocking off Santa Susanna of Simi Valley 10-6.
“Every single player on the roster contributed in a huge way,” said Biegert.
Four starers hit. .500 or better in the tournament: Will Fisher, Carter Soto, Izzy Reyes and Braiden Biegert.
Ace pitcher Steven Macias got the win in the title game, going 6 1/3 innings and got the win.
At the plate, Jonah Spach was 4-for-5 and Will Fisher was 3-for-4 with two doubles.
Santa Barbara will next play in the Sectional Tournament this weekend in West Hills against teams ranging from Bakersfield to Los Angeles.
Members of the Bronco All-Stars are: Julian Amador, Braeden Biegert, Will Fisher, Cedar Gately, Ben Gunther, Emerson Liebl, Josh Kang, Steven Macias, Michael Moschitto, Izzy Reyes, Carter Soto and Jonah Spach.
Biegert is assisted by Mike Moschitto, Steve Kang and Steve Fisher.
