Jack Perry dethroned former Santa Barbara High teammate Andrew Perez as champion at the Oxnard City Golf Championship on Sunday at River Ridge Golf Course.
Perry, who completed his freshman season at Northwestern, fired a final-round of 1-over-par 73 for a 36-hole total of 141. Perez shot a 2-over 74 and finished at 147, tied with Casey Piper of Simi Valley.
“I felt like I had a good game plan coming in,” Perry told the Ventura Star. “I only attacked on holes where I felt I could, and on the others I played more safe and just tried to make pars. I have never played greens this fast so it was a challenge. It seemed like every putt you missed rolled six feet past the hole, but I putted OK.”
Perez, who won the California Community College individual title this spring at College of the Desert, captured last year’s Oxnard title in a playoff. He is the two-time defending Santa Barbara City champion.
Santa Barbara’s Matt Free won the Senior Championship Flight with a gross score of 146 (74-72).
In the Ladies Division, Carol Carpenter of Santa Barbara won the net title with 144 (76-68).
