Goleta Valley South Little League made history on Sunday, winning the first 9-under District 63 championship by beating Dos Pueblos 10-1.
Goleta Valley South broke open a 2-1 game in the final inning with eight runs. The big blow was a bases-loaded double by Jackson Haskell that drove in two runs. The team sent 14 batters to the plate in the inning.
Goleta Valley finished the first-ever 9U division with 35 hits and outscoring their opponents 30-8.
Connor Chavez collected three hits on the day and Diego Sandoval, Jacob Galindo, and Nico Martinez added two hits each. Defensively, the GVSLL committed zero errors and was able to escape two bases-loaded innings without allowing any runs.
Martinez was tough on the mound. He pitched 4 1/3 innings, striking out five and only allowing one run. Brent Hyman came in to close the game.
This game was scoreless until the third inning when Sandoval started a two-out rally followed by three straight hits that resulted in two runs.
