Jack Sofro ripped a grand slam and Evan Kling followed with a mammoth solo homer to start the game for the Goleta Valley South Little League 11-Under All-Stars on Tuesday night.
But Moorpark fought its way back and scored two runs in the sixth inning to beat GVS 8-6 and win the Section 1 All-Star Tournament in Nipomo.
Moorpark, with the help a two-run homer by Robert Fletcher and a three-run shot by Sawyer Stoehr, took a 6-5 lead in the second inning.
GVS tied the score in the bottom of the second on a single by Dylan Shugart, scoring Trey Tank.
The pitchers took over in the third throught fifth innings. Kling frustrated Moorpark hitters with a variety of breaking balls and a mean fastball, while GVS hitters had a tough time against Zach Zulager.
Moorpark would break through with two outs in the sixth. Leighton Demello drew a walk and Dillon Holliday hit a two-run homer on a 3-2 pitch for the eventual winning runs.
