Chris Noggle and Jordan Barbieri-Low slugged home runs to back the solid pitching of Austin Bull, and the Dos Pueblos Little League 12-Under All-Stars shut down Goleta Valley South 7-0 to advance to the championship of the District 63 Tournament on Sunday at Girsh Park.
The win leaves DP with a 2-0 record in the double-elimination tournament. It will play the winner of Monday’s elimination game between Goleta Valley South and Ventura Foothill on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Foothill eliminated Montalvo.
Bull overpowered Goleta Valley’s offense. He struck out 11, allowed two hits and walked three in five innings. He was relieved in the sixth by Matt Nichols, who finished the final inning with two walks and three strikeouts.
Dos Pueblos took advantage of 11 walks issued by six Goleta Valley pitchers.
Noggle got DP’s offense going right away, belting a two-run homer in the first inning. He drove in Will Parker, who reached base on a fielder’s choice.
Barbieri-Low hit a solo shot in the second and Wyatt Boyle drove in a run for a 4-0 lead.
In the fourth, Boyle made Goleta Valley pay for another walk by ripping a two-run double.
Goleta Valley threatened to break the shutout in the fourth when Blake Katsev singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch with no outs. But Bull stepped up and struck out the next three batters.
Matt Shotwell scored the last run for DP on a wild pitch in the fifth inning. Shotwell reached base three times on a single and two walks.
