The Santa Barbara Riptide baseball club rebounded from a first-game loss and won three straight games to capture the title at the Simi Valley Youth Baseball Memorial Day Tournament.
The Riptide, a 13-under team, was playing up in the 14-under division for the first time. The team dropped a 4-3 opener against the West Coast Warriors but bounced back with a 10-2 romp over the North Valley Giants.
Dalton Schroeder pitched six strong innings, allowing two runs and scattering six hits to earn the win. Nick Noggle led the offense attack with three hits and four RBIs.
The Riptide met the Giants again in the playoffs and won 4-1 behind the pitching of Kevin Gowdy. He scattered four hits and didn’t allow an earned run.
John Jensen, playing in his firset tournament since recovering from knee surgery, had a RBI double for Santa Barbara.
The Riptide got a rematch against the Warriors in the final and held on for a 6-5 win.
Nick Kitzmann started on the mound and went three innings and Noggle pitched the last four. Noggle homered in the fourth to give the Riptide a 4-1 lead. Luke Coffey added a run-scoring double and Bryce Morison executed a perfect squeeze bunt for a RBI.
This makes three consecutive tournament championships for the Riptide.
