Christian “Hollywood” Hesch and former UCSB running star Bethany Nickless captured the men’s and women’s elite division titles at the annual Platinum Performance State Street Mile on Sunday in downtown Santa Barbara.
Hesch, who recently won the Wine Country Half Marathon and Ventura Law Day 5k, crossed the finish line at 4 minutes, 3 seconds. Jorge Jabaz of Anaheim came in second in 4:03 and Brandon Johnson of Canyon Country was third in 4:06. Fourth-place Eric Williams of Santa Barbara also clocked 4:06.

Nickless, a Big West champion in the 3000 meters and a NCAA regional runner-up, won in 4:49. Jennifer Boyd of Camarillo came in second place in the same time and Grace Padilla was third in 4:54.
The elite masters winners were Ray Knerr, 51, of Ventura, in 4:33 and Santa Barbara’s Fran Finney, 56, in 6:12.
In the popular dog mile, Paul Bryan and his canine finished first in 4:39, edging John Fedroff of Thousand Oaks by one second.
