Bell, 13, captures 4th Nite Moves swim

Thirteen-year-old Walker Bell won his fourth Nite Moves 1-kilometer swim Wednesday night, churning through wind-waves to finish in 14 minutes, 20 seconds.

Walker, who is preparing to compete in the 5k at the U.S. Open Water Championships next weekend in Fort Lauderdale, finished ahead of second-place swimmer Jim West by 39 seconds.

Walker is an 8th grader at Laguna Blanca School. He will be going to Fort Lauderdale with his coach John Dussiliere, who was the U.S. Open Water team coach at the 2008 Olympics. Walker qualified for the U.S. Championships at Clovis Invitational Meet, where he swam the 1500 freestyle in a time of 17:20.25.

Walker swam against a tough field on Wednesday night. Triathlete Zack Paris finished third (15:01) and multi-time Santa Barbara Biathlon champion Jon Clark took fourth (15:10).

Karen Schultz was the first woman finisher (10th overall) in 16:51.

In the 5k run, Zac Campbell, a member of the Chapman College cross country team and a graduate of Laguna Blanca, ran away from the field and finished first in 17:37. Ricky Biggs of Santa Barbara was second in 18:37.

In the swim-run aquathon, John Severin, 25, of Calabasas won in 37:13, doing the swim in 16:24 and the run in 20:50. He recently finished seventh overall and second in his age division at the Orange County International Triathlon.

Thousand Oaks triathlete and Nite Moves regular Norbert Hoehne was second in 37:31 (15:16 swim, 22:16 run) and Clark third in 39:15 (15:10, 24:05). Schlutz was the first woman (7th overall) in 43:05.
