Nicci Yvanovich and Betsy Sauer came up short in their bid for a state doubles title on Saturday in the California Community College Championships at the Sierra Sport & Racquet Club in Fresno.
The SBCC duo, seeded No. 8 in the South, had played their first matches together on Friday, winning twice to reach the semifinals. On Saturday, they fell to No. 2 seed Criss Rodriguez and Krystal Hansard of state champion Santa Monica, 6-0, 6-1.
“The Santa Monica team really came ready to play,” said Vaquero coach Debbie Ekola. “They were flawless.”
“We had a great season with our second straight trip to the team playoffs and making the doubles semifinals at the Southern Cal Regional and State. Our program is getting better every year and we hope to continue building on that.”
