Yokubaitis gives solid effort in 4-1 Bishop victory

Cody Yokubaitis pitched a complete game and Jack Gregson doubled in the go-ahead run in the second inning, as Bishop Diego defeated visiting Santa Paula 4-1 in a Frontier League baseball game on Wednesday.

The win keeps the Cardinals (10-6, 6-3) one game behind first-place Villanova in the Frontier League standings.

After giving up a solo homer in the first inning, Yokubaitis held Santa Paula to three hits the rest of the way and didn’t walk a batter.

“He was very efficient today. He only threw 77 pitches, 54 of them for strikes,” said Bishop coach Dan Yokubaitis, Cody’s father.

Reese Moulton singled in Hank Vanderfin to tie the score in the bottom of the first.

In the second, Gregson ripped a double to left to bring home Jacob Salcedo and an error on the Santa Paula shortstop allowed Gregson to score.

The Cardinals added an insurance run in the sixth on a RBI single by Moulton, who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Yokubaitis, who scored the fourth run, also went 2-3 at the plate.
