Shooting a score close to par was quite an accomplishment on the second day of the 52nd annual Santa Barbara City Golf Championship.
Golfers struggled with windy conditions all afternoon on Sunday at the Santa Barbara Golf Club. Defending champion and first-round leader Andrew Perez soared from an 8-under par 62 to a 1-over 71 on Sunday, but he maintained the lead at 7-under 133.
Allen Geiberger, the son of Mr. 59 Al Geiberger, handled the gusts and shot a 4-under 66, to move into a second-place, one shot back at 134. Geiberger and two-time champion Kevin Marsh were the only two players to shoot under par.
Marsh shot a 69 and is four shots back at 137. Cal State San Marcos golfer Kevin Ruby is at 138 after a 71.
Brent Brockermeyer, of Los Angeles, scrambled in with a 73 and is in fifth place at 140
Brandon Gama, the 2009 champion, who was in second place after the first round with a 66, blew back to eighth at 142 after a 76.
The cut was at 148
In the other flights, Gavin Lee (141) holds a one-shot lead over Duane Koyano (142) in the Palmer Flight; Bill Spencer and Mathew Minae share the lead at 142 in the Hogan Flight; Tom Seidl leads the Nicklaus Flight at 140; Greg Bristol (142) has a five-stroke lead in the Trevino Flight; Loren Fenske is the Snead Flight leader at 145, and Stephen D. Lee (149) has a one-shot lead over Don Dick in the Player Flight.
