(MOBILE, Ala.) Fifteen Westmont athletes will compete in 13 events at the upcoming NAIA Outdoor Track
and Field National Championships in Marion, Indiana next week. The three-day championship event
begins on Thursday, May 26.
Adam Thompkins will compete for the Warriors in the men’s decathlon beginning at 10:00 a.m. (CDT) on
Thursday. Thompkins qualified for the decathlon by scoring 6,293 points at the Westmont Collegiate
Classic. His score is the tenth best in the NAIA this year.
Andrew Kolodinski posted the top qualifying mark in the NAIA when he threw the javelin 70.18 meters
(230-3) at the Westmont Collegiate Classic. Kolodinski will make his bid for a national championship
beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Trials for the men’s 4 x 800 meter relay will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday with David Donner, Jacob
Goodin, Matt Shiney and Eric Williams competing for the Warriors. Westmont earned an automatic
qualification at the Westmont Warrior Qualifier when they set a stadium record of 7:43.17. Westmont’s
qualification time was the fourth fastest time in the NAIA this year. The finals are scheduled for 6:20 p.m.
on Friday.
Also competing for the men on Thursday will be Quincy Braxton in the men’s 400 meter trials at 3:10 p.m.
Braxton posted a time of 48.50 at the Fresno Pacific Meet to gain a provisional qualification time. The
semifinals are scheduled for 3:10 p.m. on Friday with the finals run at 4:20 p.m. on Saturday.
The men’s 5,000 meters semifinals begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and will feature two Westmont runners –
Jake Jeanson and Matt Day. Jeanson’s 14:36.24 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational earned him a spot in
the national championships. Day qualified at the Westmont Warrior qualifier by running 14:56.29. The
5,000 meter finals will be conducted on Saturday at 5:35 p.m.
On Saturday at one o’clock, Scott MacDonald will represent Westmont in the men’s shot put. The junior
earned his way to nationals at the Westmont Warrior qualifier with a throw of 15.48 meters (50-9.5).
Women’s qualifiers include Chrissa Trudelle who will run the marathon on Saturday morning at six
o’clock. Trudelle also qualified in both the 10,000 meters and the 5,000 meters but has elected to run the
26.2 mile race instead.
Before Trudelle runs the longest race at the championships, Amanda Chevalier will compete in the
shortest race – 100 meters. Chevalier’s ran 12.22 at the GSAC Championship to earn a provisional
qualification time. The trials are scheduled for 2:15 p.m. on Thursday with the semis and finals scheduled
for Friday at 2:40 and 4:50 p.m. respectively.
Competing in the women’s hurdles are Laurel Stormans and Sondra Blockman. Both athletes will run the
400 meters, beginning with the trials at 5:15 p.m. Stormans and Blockman automatically qualified for the
event at the GSAC Championships, with Blockman running a time of 63.57 and Stormans finishing in
63.63. The semifinals for the event are scheduled for 5:15 on Friday with the finals being held on
Saturday at 3:50 p.m.
Blockman will also represent the Warriors in the 100 meter high hurdles. Blockman ran an automatic
qualification time of 14.82 at the Westmont Collegiate Classic to earn a place in the championship
competition. The semifinals are Friday afternoon at 1:20 with the finals later that day at 4:20.
Running the women’s 3,000 meter steeplchase will be Angela Gonzalez. Her best mark in the event came at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational where she ran an automatic qualifying time of 11:17.60. The finals are scheduled for two o’clock on Saturday.
