Thompson to play volleyball for the Warriors

(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Setter Heidi Thompson of Phoenix, Arizona has committed to attend Westmont and play volleyball for the Warriors beginning this coming fall. Thompson was a four-year varsity starter for Sunnyslope High
School which won the Arizona state championship each of her last three years. Last season, Sunnyslope was ranked at number two in Arizona and number one in the Division 4 A I rankings.

“Heidi is not only going to provide a back-up setter, which we did not have last year, but is going to compete for a starting position,” said Westmont head coach Jim Smoot. “She is experienced at running a very quick offense and has excellent ball location on her sets. For her size, she is a very good blocker and can rip a jump serve.”

Playing in a 5-1 system, Thompson recorded 1,031 assists in her senior year. She also tallied 194 digs, 135 kills (1.2 per set), 94 service aces and 38 blocks.

Thompson, who served as team captain in her senior year, was named to the All-Arizona Volleyball team and touted by the Arizona Republic as “the smartest player on the court in every match.”
