It felt like the middle of summer in early May for the season opener of Nite Moves on Wednesday, as hundreds flocked to Leadbetter Beach to take part in the start of the swim and run series’ 23rd year.
Todd Booth chased down a first place finish in the 5k run with a time of 16 minutes and 43 seconds. Christie Bjelland was the top female finisher in a time of 19:54. Marcelo Meijia was the second overall finisher in the 5k, 13 seconds behind Booth.
Twelve-year-old Jack Randmaa was the youngest finisher in the top-25. Randmaa’s race was good for 14th overall.
Thirteen-year-old Walker Bell bested the field in the 1k ocean swim. Bell beat out second-place finisher Alex Valente with the only sub-14 minute time of the evening. Zack Paris, Jim West and Ben Brewer rounded out the top-five swimmers.
Mike Smith, Norbert Hoehne and Kyle Visin were the top performers in the aquathon.
