Laguna Blanca’s boys volleyball season came to an end with a tough five-game loss to Flintridge Prep on Tuesday in a CIF Division 5 first-round playoff match. The game scores were 25-22, 25-20, 16-25, 11-25, 10-15.
The Owls looked sharp in the first two games, taking a commanding 2-0 lead before Flintridge answered back behind the play of 6-8, 250-pound middle Kenyatta Smith, who led his school to a CIF 5-AA basketball championship in March and is headed to Harvard.
“Our guys were in complete control of the match,” Laguna coach Dillan Bennett said. “Our offense was unstoppable in the first two sets. That was the best our team played all season. I think we got a little tentative in Set three and started missing serves, which led to many easy points for Flintridge.”
Parker Lilly led the Owls with 9 kills, 6 digs and 3 blocks. Spencer Dusebout had 12 kills, two aces and three blocks.
Connor Gray had 15 digs with one ace.
Laguna Blanca finishes the season at 10-11.
“It has been a great season. This group of guys worked their butts off all season and never stopped until the end.” Bennett said. “I am very proud of my guys and I wish them all the best in the future. It has been a pleasure coaching them. They made my first season as a head coach special.”
