Elysia Hodges and Hannah McDaniel will be competing in individual events and running on San Marcos’ 4×400 relay at the CIF State Meet in Clovis next weekend.
The girls qualified for State at the CIF-SS Masters Meet Friday night at Cerritos College.
The Westmont-bound Hodges lowered her school record in the 300 hurdles, clocking 43.08 to finish seventh in a highly competitive race. Her time was below the qualifying standard of 43.53.
“Elysia ran her heart out today. She went out and was a great competitor,” said coach Marilyn Hantgin.
McDaniel, a Cal Poly commit, met the qualifying height of 5-5 and finished fifth in the high jump.
The relay team of Kaylin Koopman, McDaniel, Marie Brashears and Hodges lowered the school record to 3:47.21 and finished in fifth place. They easily beat the qualifying time of 3:52.42.
“The relay team was against tough competition and they stepped up again. I am amazed that we continue to get better, and the girls remain focused,” said Hantgin
Shane Rowan missed qualifying by nine inches in the triple jump. His best mark was 46-01, and he needed a 46-10 to advance to the State.
