Sixteen UC Santa Barbara student-athletes have been selected Golden Eagle Award winners, and two of those have been chosen as Golden Eagle Ring winners, the UCSB Intercollegiate Athletics Department announced Tuesday.
The Golden Eagle Award represents a combination of athletic and academic achievement. The Golden Eagle Ring honorees represent the male and female student-athletes with the highest grade point average among all Gaucho athletes.
The 2011 Golden Eagle Ring winners are Milos Golic of men’s water polo and Cory Yoshida of women’s soccer. Golic, a native of Belgrade, Serbia, is a senior business economics major with a 3.78 grade point average. Yoshida, a native of Irvine, Calif., has a 3.68 grade point average in environmental studies.
Overall, UCSB athletes have a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 83-percent, a figure that is the second highest of all University of California campuses. Also, through the fall and winter seasons, 25 Gauchos have been named to Academic All-Conference Teams.
The UCSB Golden Eagle Award winners will be honored on Wednesday, May 4 at banquet to be held at Fess Parker’s Doubletree Hotel in Santa Barbara. The banquet is sponsored by Pacific Beverage Co.
