Fantasy Baseball Top-75

Just because we’re based in Santa Barbara, California, doesn’t mean we don’t know fantasy.

Presidio Sports loves fantasy. We conduct several local fantasy leagues as a fun, competetive way to raise money for local sports charities and organizations in the Santa Barbara community.

Here’s our top-75 MLB fantasy list, which we update every week throughout the baseball season. Bookmark this page now and check back whenever fantasy moves are being considered. Feel free to agree or disagree with our opinions on our Facebook Page. The list reflects who we think the most valuable fantasy players are going forward for the rest of this season.

The list can fluctuate wildly week to week as I don’t coddle ANYONE! That’s right, nobody gets an unrealistically long leash here as they do on other sites. Ok, Here we go:

MLB TOP-75 FANTASY PLAYERS (Updated May 27)

1. Jose Bautista (Until he stops leading the American League in multiple offensive categories, he’s staying at No. 1)
2. Ryan Braun (Recent slump for him can barely be called a slump for anyone else)
3. Matt Kemp (only concern for Kemp is that he plays for the Dodgers)
4. Troy Tulowitzki (unmatched power potential at shortstop)
5. Carlos Gonzalez (Clearly coming around as the power surge has indicated)
6. Adrian Gonzalez (Finishing off one of his better Mays in his career)
7. Miguel Cabrera (Still waiting for breakout stretch)
8. Robinson Cano (can’t match his production at second base)
9. Joey Votto (Never heard a single complaint about this guy fantasy-wise)
10. Albert Pujols (Just when it looked like things were coming around, they stopped coming around)
11. Evan Longoria (Top-notch third baseman working through some struggles right now)
12. Jose Reyes (keeping that average well above .300 is exactly what he needs to do to maximize steal potential)
13. Roy Halladay (Phillies pitcher at it again, excelling in the National League with a good team)
14. Hanley Ramirez (Showing some power and still an elite option at SS)
15. Matt Holiday (Elite hitter for years, think slightly underrated because in Pujols’ shadow)
16. Alex Rodriguez (May hasn’t been great, but overall numbers are not in a terrible place)
17. Josh Johnson (Shoulder soreness lands Johnson on the DL… hmmm)
18. Dan Haren (The wins have been hard to come by of late, but other cats holding strong)
19. Tim Lincecum (Elite pitcher; we’ll see if long season last year catches up to flame-thrower late in season)
20. Drew Stubbs (Contributes in every category, just not quite the run-producer as Kemp, Cargo)
21. Jacoby Ellsbury (Ditto on Ellsbury, and even less power with Ellsbury than Stubbs. But number of steals is candy)
22. Prince Fielder (Reliable power numbers at first base)
23. Ryan Howard (Reliable power numbers at first base)
24. Mark Teixeira (Reliable power numbers at first base)
25. Curtis Granderson (HR pace may drop off, but in great Yanks lineup no reason not to produce)
26. Felix Hernandez (Rookie teammate has better stats so far, but Felix will rise above)
27. Josh Hamilton (Homered in his first game back from the DL)
28. Carl Crawford (Enough life in the past few days to move him up a few spots, but I need to see more before lifting him even further)
29. Jon Lester (Good source of wins, strikeouts, and national tv appearances)
30. Mariano Riviera (Yankees keep setting up save opportunities and Riviera keeps setting them down)
31. Jay Bruce (On a tear like few else in May, the Reds could use others like him at the moment)
32. Ian Kinsler (Rangers second baseman has been neither great nor poor this season so far)
33. Justin Upton (Has always had the talent, slowly getting the production to match up)
34. Andrew McCutcheon (Best offensive weapon in slightly improved Pirates offense)
35. Clayton Kershaw (Will finish the season near the top in strikeouts with an ERA around 3. I’ll take it)
36. Asdrubal Cabrera (Indians shortstop keeps going for the team with the AL’s best record. If the Indians keep winning, I say Asdrubal keeps hitting)
37. Paul Konerko (Collecting top-tier like numbers in Chitown)
38. Kevin Youkilis (The least talked about fantasy star in baseball)
39. Brandon Phillips (Playing with a purpose[contract year])
40. Rickie Weeks (Sets the table for potent lineup in Milwaukee)
41. Ben Zobrist (Eligible at multiple positions, Zorilla is enjoying comeback of year campaign)
42. Nelson Cruz (Nothing but injury interuptions on his track record)
43. Huston Street (Proven closer doing it for winning team in division with lots of close games)
44. Jered Weaver (Not convinced he has the staying power as other elite starters, proving me right)
45. Leo Nunez (Getting ton of saves)
46. Dustin Pedroia (Valuable commodity at second base, although hasn’t been able to match numbers from MVP ’08 season)
47. Mike Stanton (Power numbers are starting to show after slow start)
48. Victor Martinez (V-Mart doing just fine in DH role in Detroit)
49. Carlos Marmól (hasn’t allowed a run in over a month but Cubs not delivering enough save opportunities)
50. Matt Joyce (Rays slugger brandishing one of the hottest bats in baseball in May; starting to soar in these rankings)
51. Lance Berkman (I’m not concerned by injury or him fading as much as others, he looks to be a new man in St. Louis; eligible at 1b & OF)
52. Jayson Werth(First hot streak of season put numbers back to somewhat respectable numbers)
53. Adrian Beltre (Decent option at third base in hitters park, high-scoring offense)
54. Tommy Hanson (Braves pitcher making case to be considered elite fantasy pitching option)
55. Justin Verlander (A no-hitter and 71 strikeouts already have Verlander as one of the top pitchers in the game right now, although May has been his best month over his seven-year career)
56. Shin-Soo Choo (Cleveland has been great even without Shoo at his best)
57.  David Wright (Back uncertainty nothing anyone wants to deal with)
58. Corey Hart (Good chance all the bad stuff in rear-view mirror and all the good, great stuff is just to come; get in there while you can)
59. Ryan Zimmerman (Great when in lineup, just doesn’t happen that often)
60. Cliff Lee (Anyone would be happy to have him as No. 2 starter)
61. James Shields (Not as nasty as Verlander, but getting the job done and has a track record of throwing big innings in a season)
62. Michael Young (Former UCSB Gaucho proving he’s not at all done contributing)
63. Martín Prado (Under-appreciated option)
64. Shane Victorino (Sneaky good fantasy player as usual, DL stint about half-way done with)
65. Elvis Andrus (Speedy leadoff man in Texas offense; good source of steals and runs)
66. David Price (Doesn’t have problems pitching in the AL East, posting elite numbers inside the division)
67. Shaun Marcum (Good start in Milwaukee)
68. Howie Kendrick (Howie putting together career year)
69. Carlos Santana (One of better hitting options at catcher position)
70. Russell Martin (Looking like top-five catching option in Yankees lineup; early season production has Martin hitting sixth behind Cano)
71. Brian McCann (Hitting for average so far, but run production needs to improve)
72. Hunter Pence (On pace for first 100 RBI season)
73. Chris Young (Connected for a home run off Jair Jurrjens this week for his ninth, but hasn’t been running as much as last year)
74. Alexi Ogando (Rangers starter doesn’t have an innings cap this season and is commanding opposing lineups)
75. B.J. Upton (Tampa outfielder posting decent totals in five categories)

ON THE OUTSIDE, LOOKING IN:

Colby Rasmus, Starlin Castro, Cole Hamels, Drew Storen, Jair Jurrjens, Josh Beckett, James Shields, Gaby Sanchez, Michael Piñeda, Neil Walker, Jason Heyward, Jimmy Rollins, Carlos Beltran, Alfonso Soriano,  Jeff Francouer, Heath Bell, Brian Wilson, CC Sabathia, Max Sherzer, Jaime Garcia, Andre Ethier, Mat Latos, Yovanni Gallardo

DROPPED OUT:

Buster Posey (Devastating injury all but ruins his fantasy appeal)
Jaime Garcia (Following up last year’s breakout with authority)
Matt Latos (Still trying to find 2010 groove, and that groove is worth waiting for)
Andre Ethier (The guy can hit, obviously, but missing power this year)
