The ocean view from Palos Verdes High is stunning. The Sea Kings’ boys tennis team also is quite impressive.
Dos Pueblos learned that in a first-round match of the CIF Division 1 playoffs on Tuesday. The doubles team of Eric Katz and Caleb Franzen grabbed the only set victory in a 17-1 loss against the No. 2-seeded team in the division.
“They wanted to finish the season strong, DP coach Liz Frech said of team going out and playing hard against a top-notch opponent. “That they did. Every player exhibited high energy and intensity.”
Katz-Franzen beat PV’s No. 1 team 6-3. DP’s No. 3 team of Peter Shao-Richard Cheng battled back from a 2-5 deficit and squared the set at 5-5 before falling 7-5.
In singles. Jared Madison exchanged many long baseline rallies with PV’s No. 1 player Erik Kim. He lost 6-4.
“I am very proud of this team for their great attitudes, their support of one another, and all of the hard work they did this season,” said Frech.
The Chargers finish at 11-8. Palos Verdes is 15-0.
