Jackson Mauze pitched a three-hit, 12-0 shutout at Thacher on Friday, helping Cate baseball (6-2) finish off the season in second place in the Condor League behind first-place Dunn School.
Mauze (5-1) pitched a complete mercy-rule game, striking out five and walking one.
After a run scored in both the first and second innings, Cate created plenty of breathing room in the third with five runs scored off two Thacher errors, a Zach Ell two-run single and a Justin Lucchesi one-run single.
Cate topped it off with another five runs in the fifth and final inning.
“We are hitting the ball well, and Jackson Mauze pitched a great game for us,” said coach Ben Soto.
Cate suffered two one-run losses earlier this season, which minimized the Rams chance of stealing the first place position.
“We had a really good season. We had two losses by one run, and we would feel better if had won those two games, but we still look forward to Monday (when the playoff pairings are announced),” said Soto.
The Rams are 13-2 overall.
