Bishop Diego falls on walk-off single in seventh

Santa Paula scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Bishop Diego 9-8 and create a tied for second place in the Frontier League baseball race.

Both teams have 6-4 records with two games remaining. Bishop plays Fillmore twice next week and Santa Paula faces Santa Clara in a two-game series.

It was a heartbreaking loss for Bishop as it scored five runs in the top of the seventh to rally from an 8-3 deficit. Hank Vanderfin had a RBI single, Sam Kwock drew a walk with the bases load and Jack Gregson cleared the bases with a 3-run double.

Santa Paula scored its winning run on a single, sacrifice, ground out and a single.

Kwock hit a two-run homer in the third ining, and Vanderfin went 3-for-3 and Gregson 3-for-4 for Bishop.
