Nicci Yvanovich and Amy Sagraves advanced to the WSC women’s tennis quarterfinals on Saturday at Ventura College and earned Southern Cal Regional berths in both singles and doubles.
Play was halted at the quarterfinal stage and all remaining players earned spots in the regional, which will take place on May 5-7 at Grossmont in El Cajon.
Yvanovich, the eighth seed, swept Gwendolyn Kauffman of Santa Monica 6-2, 6-1 while Sagraves, a sophomore from Dos Pueblos High, upset No. 5 seed Sevana Zargarian of Glendale 6-4, 6-4.
Three other Vaqueros, including No. 6 seed Betsy Sauer, lost in the Round of 16.
In doubles, the fourth-seeded Yvanovich-Sagraves blanked Vaughn Valdez-Carolyn Morris of Ventura 6-0, 6-0 to advance.
“Amy had an amazing tourney and Nicci got a favorable draw, then pulled through beautifully,” said coach Debbie Ekola.
