Four singles and four doubles squads from SBCC survived the first day of the WSC women’s tennis tournament on Friday at Ventura College.
Second-round winners for the Vaqueros in singles were No. 6 seed Betsy Sauer, No. 8 Nicci Yvanovich, Amy Sagraves and Meike van Hoogenhuijze.
The doubles team of Caroline Wachtmeister and Julia Rios rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the second set to beat a team from Glendale 6-2, 6-4 in the first round.
The other three SBCC doubles teams — No. 4 seed Yvanovich-Sagraves, No. 6 seed Sauer-Ross and Van Hoogenhuijze-Anna Slyutova all had byes into the Round of 16.
The singles get underway at 12:30 p.m. Saturday with the doubles starting at 3:30 p.m.
All the winners of those matches (WSC quarterfinalists) will advance to the Southern Cal Regional on May 5-7 at Grossmont College in El Cajon.
