Kyle Benskin had 10 kills and hit .833 on Friday to lead SBCC to its first men’s volleyball sweep of the year — a 25-19, 25-19, 25-16 decision over El Camino in Torrance.
Justin Hertlein had a team-high 14 kills and matched Benskin in blocks with two. The Vaqueros (8-6, 5-2) won their fourth straight match and took sole possession of second place in the Western State Conference.
“That was our best match of the year,” said coach Armen Zakarian. “The boys are playing with a lot of confidence.”
Justin Carroll and Jacob Jenkins each had six digs for Santa Barbara while Michael Naki had five digs and two blocks.
“We started out fast and took them out of their rhythm,” Zakarian stated. “Our middles were huge the whole night.”
The Vaqueros travel to first-place Long Beach on Wednesday.
