SBCC’s women went 6-1 on the first day of the 111th Ojai Tennis Tournament.
Betsy Sauer and Nicci Yvanovich each won two singles matches on Thursday to reach the third round at Camino Real Park in Ventura.
Sauer beat Patricia Escalante of Long Beach 6-0, 6-1 and MacKenzie Shutler of Irvine Valley 6-3, 6-2. She’ll face Tiffany Shaik of Fullerton on Friday at 8 a.m. Yvanovich blanked Lisa Kryiopoulos of Mt. San Jacinto 6-0, 6-0 in the first round and then beat Chelsea Logan of Cypress 6-1, 6-1. Yvanovich will meet top-seeded Katerina Mozolyuk of Santa Monica in another 8 a.m. third-round match on Friday.
SBCC’s Amy Sagraves dropped a 1-6, 6-1, 7-5 first-round decision to Katherine McFeeters of Fresno City.
In doubles, Sauer-Ross and Yvanovich-Sagraves had first-round byes. In the second round, Sauer-Ross knocked off Jessica Eung-Mercedes Guerriero of San Diego City 6-0, 6-1 and Yvanovich-Sagraves shut out another San Diego City duo, Melissa Chaysouk and Ledia Gutierrez, 6-0, 6-0.
Sauer-Ross will meet Sabrina Emery-Jourdan Jefferson of Mt. San Antonio on Friday while Yvanovich-Sagraves will battle Nadia Blackburn-Gabie Fortunato of San Diego Mesa. Both matches are set for Ventura College at 12:30 p.m.
