SBCC lost three out of four 10-point tiebreakers on Thursday in a 5-4 nonconference men’s tennis setback to Riverside at Pershing Park.
It was the fourth 5-4 loss of the season for the Vaqueros (1-10). Riverside is 14-4.
“This match was so close,” said coach Ryan Heinberg. “If we’d won just one more of the pro-set tiebreakers, we would have won the match.”
Simo El Azzouzi posted the only split-set singles win for Santa Barbara by beating Vlises Banos 6-7, 7-5 (10-5). John Rosenkvist also won in singles, Troy Akin-Che Borja captured the No. 2 doubles 8-5 and the Vaqueros took the third doubles by injury default.
SBCC will play its third match in four days on Friday when it wraps up WSC play by hosting Ventura at 2 p.m.
