Santa Barbara had a power day at the plate, as Spencer Fraker belted a go-ahead grand slam and Collin Dewell followed with a solo homer to lift the Dons to an 11-5 win over Buena in a Channel League baseball game in Ventura.
Down 6-4 going into the seventh, Fraker hit his first grand slam. Dewell followed up with a homer of his own to put the game away.
Santa Barbara rapped out 11 hits against Buena’s top hurler Drew Jacobs.
Jacobs pitched a no-hitter the last time he faced Santa Barbara nearly a month ago, but the Dons made sure that didn’t happen again.
“Jacobs had us on our back the last time out,” said assistant coach Mike Cooney. “Today we were successful with the bat, and that was the difference.”
Dewell also started as pitcher for Santa Barbara, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing 7 hits, one walk and three strikeouts.
Lucas Benenati closed out the final 1.1 innings, allowing only one run in the seventh for his third save this year
Fraker was 3-5 with 4 RBIs while Dewell went 3-5 and Kees T’Sas 3-4.
Santa Barbara faces San Marcos twice next week. The first game is Tuesday at San Marcos.
