San Marcos ace Kristen Berlo struck out 12 Rio Mesa batters, but the Spartans were able to string three consecutive hits off her in the second inning for two runs and beat the Royals 2-0 in a non-league softball game on Tuesday.
The Royals were held to three hits in the game.
Rio Mesa used an infield single, a double and another single to score its runs.
