Ventura’s Reed Nothwang held San Marcos to four hits in a 9-0 Channel League baseball win over the Royals on Tuesday at Joe Mueller Field.
The Royals were down 2-0 and had a chance to score in the third inning, but Mamud Al Grazzi was thrown out at home plate.
Nothwang, a 6-4 lefthander, struck out five Royals.
The Cougars were led by Jimmy Miller, who went 2-for-3 and scored three runs, and Nothwang was 2 for 4. Dan Russell had two RBIs.
Ventura blew the game open with four runs in the seventh inning.
San Marcos falls to 2-9 and 0-5 in the Channel League. Ventura is 7-10-1, 2-3.
