Last Sunday, the 13U Santa Barbara Riptide Baseball Club traveled to Moreno Valley for a one day tournament and won the Spring Break Open Championship with a 12-1 victory over the Easton Elites.
After an early morning drive south, the boys responded by dispatching the ISC Baseball Academy 12 – 0 in a 3 inning mercy victory. In the opener, Riptide pitcher Wyatt Vogsland was dominate going all three innings striking out six and not allowing a hit.
The next contest against the Rampage Baseball Club saw the Riptide build a 9-2 lead only to suffer a 7 run rally to settle with a 9-9 tie at the end of regulation play.
Their performance earned them the number one seed and a place in the championship game against the Easton Elite. The game was tied 1-1 when the Riptide broke the game open in the second with 6 runs followed by another 5 run outburst in the third.
Riptide pitcher Nick Kitzmann was superb going all 4 innings, striking out 5 while scattering only 3 hits.
In the three games the Riptide outscored their opponents 33 – 10 while banging out 24 hits and committing only 2 errors.
The team is managed by John Jensen. The 13U Riptide team consists of: Shannon Carroll, Nick Kitzmann, Kyle Von Tillow, Quinn Peacock, Kevin Gowdy, Luke Coffee, Brice Morison, Andrew Rivera, Quinntin Perez, Wyatt Vogsland, Jesus Carrillo, Austin Vreeland and John John Jensen.
