Four days after shutting out Mt. SAC, the state’s fourth-ranked softball team, SBCC lost to Oxnard 2-1 on Tuesday.
Laura Cannon went 2-3 in the road setback to the Condors (14-14, 6-6), the fifth-place team in the WSC Gold Division. The first-place Vaqueros (23-4, 11-2) got just four hits and committed four errors leading to a pair of unearned runs. It was their first conference loss in seven road games.
On Monday, they broke into the state rankings for the first time this year at No. 15. They’re also ranked No. 8 in Southern Cal but didn’t look like it on Tuesday.
“This was the ugliest game we’ve ever played,” said coach Paula Congleton. “We didn‘t hit, we didn‘t field and we didn‘t compete.”
Kailey Snyder (20-3) pitched a six-hitter with three strikeouts for the Vaqueros. Michelle Getman held SBCC to four hits and just two in the last six innings.
Nicole Adair had a hit and scored Santa Barbara’s only run on a passed ball in the first.
The Vaqueros will play a doubleheader at Moorpark on Thursday at 1 and 3 p.m.
