Catalina Maldonado hit a two-run single in the fifth inning to lift Carpinteria to a 4-3 non-league softball win over Channel Islands on Wednesday.
Down 3-2, Maldonado drove in Dakotah Wilcox and Sarah Carrrillo.
“We didn’t play the way we like to play, especially offensively but those things happen,” Carpinteria coach Henry Gonzalez said. “I told the players afterward that good teams find a way to win, and that’s what we did today.”
Tatiana Verdugo started on the mound for the Warriors and won her fourth game against no defeats.
“She gave up five hits but they were dinkers that had eyes and found spots to drop. I thought she pitched well,” said Gonzalez.
Carpinteria (15-3) will play for the fourth straight day on Thursday, hosting Malibu in a Frontier League game.
