Blake Mackall swept his three singles matches without losing a game, but Cate fell short against San Luis Obispo, 11-7, in a non-league boys tennis match on Monday.
Cate fell to 1-4, but all the losses have come against teams in higher CIF divisions. Cate is in Division 5 and San Luis Obispo is in Division 4.
“I’m hoping they improve everytime they play a better team,” Cate coach Bob Bonning said. “I think that’s happening. We’re a young team at the lower end, and they’re learning to compete at a higher level.”
