Alexis Hill put on an offensive clinic for Cate varsity lacrosse, scoring seven of the eight total goals, though it wasn’t enough to take down No. 1 ranked Los Alamitos on Friday.
Cate held the lead until 6 minutes left in the first half, when Los Alamitos scored 5 unanswered goals, taking the game 18-8.
Even with the loss, Cate still looked solid against a tough Los Alamitos squad.
“We played one of our best games of the season,” said coach Linda Sommers.
Goalie Alexx Temena looked calm throughout the day, gathering ten saves for Cate.
“Cate’s defense played beautifully against a multi-talented and very athletic attack. Izzy Tejeda’s (wo)man-D and slides were crucial to keeping our opponents honest and off-balance. Eliza Giles and Angela Lee caused multiple turnovers even when facing fast breaks. Jane Park, Sydney Read and Lela Puckett all saw action today and did admirable jobs,” said Sommers.
With the loss, Cate dropped to 9-2 overall and remain an undefeated 4-0 in league play. Cate hits the field once again on Saturday at Newport Harbor, 12:30 p.m.
