SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Senior Andrew Gunson shot a 2-under par 208 to tie for fifth as UC Santa Barbara finished 12th at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz. Sophomore Glen Scher also garnered a top-25 finish by shooting 3-over par 213 and tying for 23rd.
As a team, the Gauchos shot 24-over par 864, 28 shots behind Baylor, the team champion, which was 4-under par 836. The Bears finished three strokes ahead of Arizona and four ahead of Colorado State. UCSB narrowly missed finishing in the top-10 of the 20-team field, trailing 10th-place San Francisco by just two shots.
The individual medalist was Tarquin Macmanus of Arizona who shot an 8-under par 202. He was one stroke ahead of Baylor’s Joakim Mikkelsen and Colorado State’s Zahkai Brown who each recorded 7-unver 203s.
Gunson was at or under par in all three rounds. He was 1-under in the first and third rounds and even-par in the second round. Scher entered the final day 6-over par, but carded a 3-under par 67 in the final round.
Tyler Weir tied for 57th at 10-over par 220 and Paul Otte tied for 75th at 13-over par 223.
The Gauchos return to action at the Braveheart Classic on Monday-Tuesday, April 11-12. The tournament is hosted by UC Riverside at the Oak Valley Golf Course in Beaumont, Calif.
