Jared Madison rallied from a 3-0 deficit and beat San Marcos No. 1 Petar Jivkov to spark Dos Pueblos to a narrow win over the Royals in a Channel League tennis match.
The Chargers won 78-72 on games after the teams tied 9-9 in sets.
Madison went undefeated in his three singles sets, as the Chargers went 7-2 in singles. Greg Steigerwald came up big at No. 3 singles, winning two sets, 6-4 and 6-1.
In doubles, San Marcos’ Travis Enholm and Parker Funk pulled out a tiebreaker win against Eric Katz and Ziyad Marcus on their way to three wins. DP’s Peter Shao/Mason Casady managed to grab a set to keep the match close.
“This match was definitely not predictable, as so many factors entered in, from weather conditions to momentum shifts, and physical ailments (allergies, injuries, and fatigue),” said DP coach Liz Frech.
This win improves DP’s record to 9-7 overall, and 4-3 in league. San Marcos is 11-5, 5-3.
