Santa Barbara golf won its fifth consecutive championship after topping Ventura 368 -402 on Tuesday, led by an outstanding performance from medalist Sean Searls, who made six birdies en route to a 4-under par 67.
The league champs finish with a record of 7-1. The Dons (16-3) face one more non-league match against Oak Park on Thursday at the River Ridge golf course in Oxnard.
Mickey Kirby finished behind Searl with a score of 72.
“Sean played great today and stepped up after a tough week last week in league. He and Mickey played solid golf after struggling at home last week against Dos Pueblos,” said coach James Bedard
Alec Constantinides, who finished with a 73, was able to overcome a lost ball on the 16th by making a 20-foot putt to save a bogey.
“I really commend the play of Alec, who had a tough break on the 16th hole. He hit a shot up the right side and the ball was unable to be found. It is possible that another golfer not in the match picked up the ball. Instead of getting frustrated and losing his cool, he re-teed with a two shot penalty, and made a 20-foot putt to take a bogey (birdie with his second ball),” said Bedard.
