The effect of the grueling three-game series against rival Dos Pueblos took its toll on Santa Barbara Saturday, as the Dons fell at Westlake 11-2 in the final game of the Chatsworth Tournament.
Pepe Gil hit a two-run single off the fence in the fifth inning for Santa Barbara’s only runs.
Dons outhit Westlake 9-7, but it was the crucial fourth and fifth innings that decided the game.
Westlake erupted in the fourth, scoring five runs on five hits. The Warriors topped it with six in the fifth, all unearned runs.
“I think we really shot ourselves after the three-game series with DP,” said assistant coach Mike Cooney. “I think it had an effect on us, and all three Westlake pitchers were well rested.”
Nick Below pitched the first four innings for the Dons, holding the Warriors scoreless for the first three innings.
Zak Daniels was 3-4 for the Warriors, with two runs and 2 RBIs.
Santa Barbara dropped to 18-6 overall. It faces Ventura in a two-game series next week, Tuesday at Ventura and Friday at home.
Westlake improved to 16-6 overall.
