Santa Barbara defeated Iolani in four games to salvage a boys volleyball split in the Clash of the Titans, hosted by Punahou High in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The Dons pulled out a 25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 25-23 thriller on Saturday.
Alex Biedul led Santa Barbara with 12 kills, followed by Casey Slaught with 10, and Holden Ploch with nine. Libero Nick Clark steadied out the Dons’ offense with 10 digs in the victory.
‘Iolani’s Gabriel Vega lifted his team with a match-high 17 kills, while Tyler Cundiff posted 11 kills and hit .500.
On Friday, the Dons lost to Punahou, the No. 5-ranked team in the country. The game scores were 25-19, 25-11, 24-26, 25-17.
Punahou’s high-flying front line controlled the net, stuffing 17 Don attacks. The Buffanblu also served seven aces.
Top-ranked Mira Costa was the fourth team in the Clash of the Titans. It beat both Hawaii teams in three straight.
