Santa Barbara shot a final round 310, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a tough first-day score, and the Dons finished tied for 20th at the prestigious Champions Invitational at Terra Lago Golf Club in Indio.
Santa Barbara, the defending state champion, shot 336-327 after two rounds of play on Friday, placing them in 26th place. The 310 was the second-best round of the second day among all teams and featured four players in the 70s.
James Morton was the Dons’ low scorer of the tournament at 238 (84-77-77), which tied him for 48th place. Ryan Stoll was next at 240 (79-78-83), tying him for 61st.
Jordan Speith of Jesuit High in Dallas, Texas, and Will Zalatoris of Trinity Christian in Plano, Texas were the co-medalists at 4-under-212.
Santa Margarita beat Robert Louis Stevenson High of Pebble Beach, 912-913 for the team title, and Servite finished third at 915. Santa Barbara scored 973.
The tournament featured 226 players and 39 teams.
The Dons return to Channel League play with matches at Ventura on Wednesday and Buena on Thursday.
