After taking some lumps against strong Orange County teams, Santa Barbara High’s baseball team finished the Anaheim Lions Tournament with a 13-1 rout over Bountiful, Utah.
“It was a good way to finish the tournament and transition back into league play,” Santa Barbara assistant Mike Cooney said.
The Dons had lost three straight against Brea-Olinda, Servite and Mission Viejo, and in all three they fell behind early.
On Wednesday, they roared out to a 12-0 lead after three innings, blowing the game open with six runs in the third.
“We started the right away as opposed to playing catch-up,” said Cooney.
Arizona-bound Collin Dewell led the Santa Barbara attack, going 3-for-5, with two triples, and driving six runs.
Spencer Fraker hit two doubles and drove in a run, and Pepe Gil had a two-run single.
Lucas Benenati picked up the victory on the mound to improve to 3-0.
Santa Barbara (11-4) returns to action on Saturday against Thousand Oaks at the Chatsworth Tournament.
