Cate School ended a slump against lacrosse rival Robert Lewis Stevenson, beating the visitors from Monterey 5-3.
It was their first win over RLS since 2006.
Defense led the way for the Rams. Captain Luke Shover held the Pirates’ top scorer to one goal, and the combination of Jack Langan, Cormac O’Connor, Jeremy Miller and Michael Martinez keyed a defensive effort that limited RLS to its lowest output since losing 13-2 to St. Ignatius Prep (California’s No. 1 high school team).
Goalkeeper Jason Pacheco played a spectacular game, recording 12 saves in his second varsity start.
On the offensive end, Mackie Greason had two goals and two assists and Michael Hassman scored twice and added an assist.
O’Connor scored the game winner late in the fourth quarter off a feed from Greason to cap a three-goal run.
Next for the Rams is a home game against San Clemente Wednesday. San Clemente is a regular contender for the Orange County/LA championship and plays in the toughest conference north of San Diego County.
